Listen to Áine Cregan talking about the importance of oral language in enabling children to access the curriculum and to succeed in school. In particular, she discusses the challenges that arise when school expectations regarding oral language development and use do not match children's language experience before, and outside, school. Áine also gives practical advice to teachers about how to develop oral language within their class and school, based on a research project she undertook with teachers in DEIS schools.
An Teanga Bhéil: dúshlán faoi mhúinteoirí
Éist le hÁine Cregas ag caint faoi thábhacht na teanga béil mar acmhainn don leanbh chun tairbhe a bhaint as an oideachas agus eispéiris maith scoile a bheith aige/aici. Labhraíonn sí faoi na dúshláin faoi leith a bhíonn ann nuair nach ionann gnásanna cainte agus éisteachta na scoile agus an taithí a bhíonn ag an leanbh lasmuigh den scoil. Tá roinnt moltaí praiticiúla ag Áine do mhúinteoirí freisin maidir le forbairt na teanga béil sa seomra ranga, bunaithe ar thionscnamh taighde a rinne sí le múinteoirí i scoileanna DEIS.
